Are We The Seers Or The Seen
Wanda Plantinga x Art Symbiosis
Before there was sight, before there was breath, there was becoming. In this new body of work, Wanda Plantinga traces the arc of life from its most ancient origins — the molecular drifting of primordial oceans — to the strange, silent world of cells that lived before oxygen claimed the atmosphere. Nineteen paintings in oil, two evolutionary chapters, one question.
Molecules in the ancient oceans — adrift, colliding, coalescing. No self yet to speak of. No boundary between the seeker and the sought. Only connection, in its most elemental form.

Wanda Plantinga was born in The Netherlands, where she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. Following that, she was employed as an Art Director in design and advertising in Jakarta, Indonesia. She refined her printmaking at the Heatherley School of Fine Art in London, UK.
The characters in her world, which are almost monstrous but charming, mysteriously depicted as descendants of her imagination, are inspired by her Western and Asian background. Her grandparents came from Indonesia, Swiss, and The Netherlands. The mystery of the deep waters was a source of fascination for her, having always lived near the sea.
Simple cells, adrift in a world with no oxygen to breathe. Life in its earliest architecture — persisting, without the gift of air. What endures when everything we know as vital is absent?
